Department Functions

Quality and Safety Department is responsible for:

1.  Developing and maintaining a Corporate:

  • Quality Assurance System (documented in this Manual).

  • Safety Management System (documented in the Corporate Safety Management System Manual).

  • Emergency Response Plan (documented in the Emergency Response Plan Manual and associated task checklists).

2.  The custody and administration of the following certificates required to conduct company operations:

  • Part 119 Air Operators Certificate.

  • Part 141 Aviation Training Organisation Certificate.

  • Part 145 Aircraft Maintenance Organisation Certificate.

3.  Preparing the company’s internal audit program, which shall cover a 12-month period, and conducting the audits described in the program.

4. Conducting emergency response table-top and field exercises for senior management.

5. Liaising with regulatory agencies, for example the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of PNG and the Australian Dept. of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.

6.  Managing the Company’s Aviation Quality Database System (AQD), which is used across the airline to record, track and report on audits, hazard reports and occurrences.

7.  Approving and maintaining a direct oversight of all service providers, including ensuring there is a satisfactory evaluation of service providers before the execution of a contract, and has direct access to the MD.

8.  These are the key factors which contribute to Air Niugini Limited’s Continuous Improvement Procedure and include:

  • Achievement of Quality Indicators (results to date).

  • Achievement of Safety Indicators (results to date).

  • Summary and Analysis of Occurrences.

  • Staff Suggestions.

  • Reporting Hazards, their trends and aberrations, deviations of Risk Assessments.

  • Summary and Analysis of Audit Activity and Reports.

  • Corrective and Preventative Action Status – In Progress / Completed / Overdue.

  • Staff Issues and Training.

  • Document Amendments.

  • Summary of On-Time Performance and Analysis of Causes of Delays and Cancellations.

  • Performance of Contracted Service Providers.

  • Environmental Issues
