Quality & Safety

Welcome to Quality and Safety  Department

Corporate Quality and Safety Department has a monitoring, tracking and reporting role within the organisation. It has no direct responsibility for ensuring regulatory compliance or conformance of the company’s suite of manuals within each operational department (i.e. Flight Operations, Maintenance Control, Engineering, Ground Operations and Aviation Security). All responsibility and accountability for ensuring regulatory compliance and conformance with the relevant manuals rests with the Head of each department.

Through the Internal Audit Program and Safety Management System, Quality and Safety is responsible and accountable for regularly providing all operational Department Heads with the information they need to take corrective and preventative actions, to ensure the compliance and conformance of their departmental manuals and through that, the safety and quality of their departmental operations.

To ensure the Corporate Quality and Safety Department is discharging its responsibilities effectively, a yearly external audit will be arranged by General Manager Quality, Safety, Risk and Audit to ensure the smooth and correct functioning of the Department. Specific topics may be included in the audit, e.g. the maintenance of controlled departmental manuals in accordance with Corporate Policy and Procedures Manual Section 6.2.1 Audit Program, but the overall scope of the audit shall be broad enough to allow the external auditor(s) flexibility in identifying any non-compliances or non-conformances in the Department’s functions, operations and activities. This annual external audit takes the place of the regular internal audits conducted by Quality and Safety on other departments, and shall be in addition to the external audits carried out by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of PNG.

The Air Niugini quality assurance programme accommodates auditing and evaluation of the management system and operational functions at planned intervals with respect to each of the following areas of activity: -

  • Flight Operations

  • Flight Despatch – (Line Operations)
